Are you the type of person who won’t do something unless the outcome is perfect? Like you don’t even want to think about tackling your cluttered garage because you don’t have an entire weekend to devote and don’t have the funds for custom cabinetry?
In the grand scheme of things, perfect is obviously ideal. But what is perfect anyway? I certainly hope it’s not comparing yourself and your situation to others on the internet. When it comes to organizing, perfect is in the eye of the beholder as function should always be considered along with aesthetic. What’s perfect for someone else might not be ideal for you or even necessary. Perfect is definitely not ideal when it causes analysis paralysis. When it causes constant delays and instead of making progress you are stuck. Stuck waiting for a situation or outcome that might never present itself.
I’m here to say that I’m guilty of this myself. A great example of this is my website. Is it perfect? Heck no! Do I compare the crap out of it to other organizer websites on the market? Hell yes! But, it’s pretty darn good I think (and so much of that is due to my fantastic web designer). And, the best part is that it’s done for now and it is live! It is serving its purpose and getting my brand and business out there. Can it improve? Um, definitely! And I have a long list of items I’d like to add/change/tweak and eventually I’ll get there. But if I continued waiting until it was the greatest website on the internet I can assure you I’d have a ‘Coming Soon’ page up for a long time.
Now, I’m not promoting doing half-a$$ work but doing something is better than doing nothing and living in analysis paralysis. If there is something that you’ve been putting off, I urge you to JUST DO IT! If it pertains to organizing, don’t wait until you buy those ‘perfect’ bins, don’t wait until you get that closet redone during the yearly Elfa Sale, and definitely don’t wait until you can get it to look like the Instagram feed of your favorite pro organizer if organizing doesn’t come easy to you. Instead, just start! Make progress. If you need some ideas of things to declutter in 10 minutes or less, check out this post.
